Instead of stitching as bouquet with long stems, this is stitched on a curved
seam treatment to fill the design. The main flower body is created using
20 MM silk satin. Although this can be done with a regular Japanese Ribbon stitch,
it folds better if you use an upside down Japanese Ribbon Stitch. Just
turn your fabric upside down before you make the stitch, so that the calyx will
be
nested in the top of the stitch instead of the bottom. A bullion
stitch in silk floss is used for the calyx. A small amount of green 4 mm silk
ribbon is wrapped around the base, like a chain stitch, then given a small tine. The
seam treatment is just chain stitch done in cotton thread.
