Evening Bag/Wedding Bag

My daughter Penny got married in June and I made her a beaded bag to use on her wedding day. I had made several bags using the snap frames, but I wanted a larger bag that she could carry her essentials for the day and for the wedding reception.

I am not a pattern designer, so I chose a Vogue pattern that worked quite well! Vogue pattern #7009 had a nice bag on it, but when I got out the pattern pieces, I found it was too big. It was very easy to cut this bag down to a smaller size and I chose a finished bag length of 12” and a width of 8”.

I made the bag out of white polyester satin and lined it with silk Dupioni. I made the drawstrings from a beautiful beaded cord I found at Hobby Lobby. The white satin cord was twisted with pearls which added a lovely effect! Choose your drawstrings before you cut out your pattern. If you are using this cord, you will need to make the casing for the drawstrings a little wider so they slide easily.

For the front of the bag I made a beaded initial “P” using the same directions that I posted in a previous article on CQMagOnline.

To frame the initial I added a fly stitch on both sides made with Cam Creations Silk thread (600 denier) and added white 7mm silk ribbon Fargo roses and leaves. I added touches of iridescent pearl beads and iridescent seed pearls tucked in amongst the flowers for a little extra sparkle.

Interesting note: these were pearls I had harvested from a wedding dress that was brought to a Dallas CQ retreat by our own Rissa Peace Root. We had a prom dress swap and I had saved the pearls from a harvested piece from the dress for something special!

The lace around the outer edge was a purchased lace.

This bag would make a beautiful evening bag out of a red satin for the holidays, or a black satin for after five. Customize this easy pattern to suit your ensemble!!
