This thimble cozy can be used as a scissor fob, or
attached to a Hussif.
These directions are using American stitch abbreviations.
- CH = chain stitch
- DC = double crochet
- SC = single crochet
Made using size 8 DMC perle cotton and a
Size 10 steel crochet hook
To start, CH 8 and close to form ring.
Round 1: CH 3, DC 15 times
into the ring for a total of 16 DC, including the first CH 3), slip stitch into
CH 3 to close round.
Round 2: CH 4, slip stitch into the first DC from previous round, *CH 4, slip stitch into next
DC from previous round, repeat from * around the ring (for a total of
16 loops) and slip stitch into the base of first CH4 to finish round.
Round 3: 2 SC into 1st loop on previous
round, CH 4, * 2 SC into the next loop on the previous round, CH 4, repeat from
* around the ring (maintaining 16 loops), slip stitch to end round.
Rounds 4 - 7: continue as with round 3 increasing the
CH 4 to a CH 5.
Round 8: *4 DC into CH 5 loop from previous round, CH 2, repeat from * around
the ring for a total of 16 sets of 4 DC, then close.
Round 9 - 11: *4 DC into the CH 2 space from
previous round, CH 2, repeat from * around the ring and close.
Round 12: *CH 4, slip stitch into 4th DC of a 4 DC
set from previous round, CH 4, slip stitch into 1st DC
of next set of 4 DC, CH 4, slip stitch into 4th DC,
repeat from * around the ring for a total of 32 loops, slip stitch to close.
Round 13: Finish this round in any way that you like.
I did mine with 12 to 14 dc in every other CH 4 from
previous round connected with a slip stitch into the
one skipped CH 4 so that it creates 16 shells and looks kind of like this
drawing. |

Lastly, crochet a chain long enough to thread through last row of DC 4
spaces. This chain will be the drawstring for the pouch and connect it to
your scissors.
Assistant Editor's note:
In rounds 9 -11, I found it easier to start the round by slip stitching
across the first set of 4 DCs and into the CH 2 space, then CH 3 to create
the first DC of the next round.
Even with a size 10 steel crochet hook, I crochet with a looser tension
than Becky. My first thimble pod was lovely, but large enough to hold a ball
of perle cotton. To get this closer to the intended size, I needed to use a
much finer thread.
