Although it's been eight months since the 2006 Houston International Quilt Market and Festival, I still have a number of ideas, techniques and products to share with everyone. I will begin by telling you about the class I took from the very-talented artist, Mary Jo Hiney. I always look forward to seeing her new designs as well as her latest books.

Mary Jo offered two classes and I was excited to take this particular handbag class. The design is called "Melody" and creates a gorgeous 9" x 9" tall handbag with a 4" base. Although I am often pattern-challenged, I found her pattern to be clearly written and easily understood.
Pictured here is the handbag I created. Mary Jo has such a wonderful eye for color and I love the dupioni silk fabrics she combined for this particular kit. She had so many color combinations to choose from and I found it difficult to make my choice. I really loved making the rose design featured in this pattern. By changing the direction of the nap you can add a wonderful shading affect to the rose.
CQMagOnline would like to thank Mary Jo for her thoughtfulness in donating a Silk Adaptation handbag pattern and fabric kit for one of our lucky readers. It is the same Melody handbag I've pictured above but in a different color palette.

CQMagOnline would like to congratulate Cathy Highland who is the winner of this issue's Readers Showcase. She will receive the Silk Adaptation handbag kit in the beautiful colors pictured above.
