Stuck for ideas to embellish a seam? Hopefully these diagrams will provoke a few ideas. Enjoy!

Seam Embellishment Idea One:

This is seam embellishment I use all the time. It is a row of little floral motifs that consist of three Detached Chain Stitches with Straight Stitches tucked between them. These can be topped with a bead and/or you can place a bead at the base of the motif.

Seam Embellishment Idea Two:

The straight lines can be worked in Stem Stitch and the daisies worked with Detached Chain Stitch. Add a bead to the middle of the flower finish off to the seam.

Seam Embellishment Idea Three:

Start with a foundation row of Straight Stitches arranged in arrow formations and decorated with bunches of grapes created from French Knots and Detached Chain Stitches. The top of the row is decorated with Straight Stitches worked in a ray like pattern.

Seam Embellishment Idea Four:

The curved parts of this can be worked in Stem Stitch and the flowers and leaves can be worked with Detached Chain Stitch. You can add a bead to the middle of the flower to add a little bit of zest to the seam.

Seam Embellishment Idea Five:

The stems can be worked in Stem Stitch and the flowers and leaves can be worked with Buttonhole and Quarter Buttonhole. Add a bead to the middle of each flower.

Seam Embellishment Idea Six:

Two rows of Chevron Stitch have a Cross Stitch placed in the middle. You can add a bead on either side of the Cross Stitch. The band is expanded with Half Buttonhole Wheels.

Seam Embellishment Idea Seven:

This seam starts with a row of Half Buttonhole Wheels which have been flipped each alternate stitch. Next is a row of Chain Stitch worked in a zig zag pattern and finally this is topped with a Detached Chain Stitch Daisy on the peaks.

Seam Embellishment Idea Eight:

Two scallops are worked using Buttonhole Stitch. The middle is decorated with Bullion Roses or Silk Ribbon Roses and leaves made of Detached Chain Stitches.

Seam Embellishment Idea Nine:

This has a foundation of row of Herringbone, which is decorated with Bullion Roses or Silk Ribbon Roses and leaves made of Detached Chain Stitches.

Seam Embellishment Idea Ten:

This has a foundation row of Herringbone decorated with small floral motifs. The flower is a Quarter Buttonhole Wheel, leaves are worked using Detached Chain Stitch and the stems are Straight Stitch. Add a bead to the middle of each flower to complete.

Seam Embellishment Idea Eleven:

The curved stem of these floral motifs can be worked in Stem Stitch. The flowers are Quarter Buttonhole Wheels and leaves can be worked with Detached Chain Stitch. You can add a bead to the base of the flower if you choose.

Seam Embellishment Idea Twelve:

These floral motifs are worked across a seam. The flower is a Quarter Buttonhole Wheel, with a bead to the base. The stems are Straight Stitch.

Seam Embellishment Idea Thirteen:

Using Detached Chain Stitches floral motifs of five petal flowers are arranged in a zig zag pattern. The centre of each flower can be a French Knot or a seed bead.

Seam Embellishment Idea Fourteen:

A row of Chevron Stitch stitched along the seam is further decorated with clusters of grapes created from French Knots and Detached Chain Stitches. The top of the row is decorated with more Detached Chain Stitches.

Seam Embellishment Idea Fifteen:

A row of Chevron Stitch acts as a foundation which is added to by arranging Straight Stitches in a ray along the sides.

Seam Embellishment Idea Sixteen:

A foundation of row of Cretan Stitch is decorated with floral motifs made up of Detached Chain Stitch and Double Fly Stitch.

Seam Embellishment Idea Seventeen:

Foundation rows of Cretan Stitch are decorated with Detached Chain Flowers each with a seed bead in the center.

Seam Embellishment Idea Eighteen:

Two rows of Cretan Stitch act as a foundation for a floral arrangement of Detached Chain Flowers and Straight Stitch sprays. Complete these sprays with a bead at the base.

Seam Embellishment Idea Nineteen:

A foundation row of Cretan Stitch is decorated with beads along the middle in zig zag fashion. Straight Stitches are arranged in a splayed design along the edges.

Seam Embellishment Idea Twenty:

Two scallops are worked using Buttonhole Stitch. Arranged in a triangle at the base are Bullion or Silk Ribbon Roses with leaves made of Detached Chain Stitches.
