I would like to introduce you to Kristal Wick and her new book, Fabulous Fabric Beads. Kristal Wick is the creator of Sassy Silkies beads, as well as an artist and author. A teacher and designer for Swarovski Crystal, Kristal also teaches at national beading and fiber arts conferences. Kristal has a wonderful degree of energy, creativity and enthusiasm, and all these attributes immediately pop out at you whether in person, or from the pages of her books.

Kristal’s new book guides you through making unique, one-of-a-kind beads from silk, muslin, or hand-dyed ribbon embellished with crystals, fiber, glitter, wire and more. These lightweight beads are made from rolled tubes of silk or other fabric and painted or embellished. Now there is a word we crazy quilters love, “embellish!”

Kristal begins her book with information on supplies, materials and tools, and suggestions for ideal fabrics.  She continues with how to create surface designs on fabric, including painting, dyeing, stamping, stenciling, computer printing, and foiling. She thoroughly explains how to create basic fabric beads in detail, including cutting, rolling, dipping, and drying. Kristal also explains the use of wire wrapping and metals, and how to incorporate fibers and embellishments with your newly created beads.

Her directions are illustrated with clear, vibrant, step-by-step photography. Kristal includes an inspirational gallery of art jewelry pieces using the featured beads. The projects are quick and inexpensive using readily available materials or fabric scraps, or materials that readers already have in their stash.

Using Kristal’s techniques, among others, I have created fabric beads for jewelry, journals, purse handles, clothing, and as CQ embellishments. I keep a stash on hand, some already embellished, some waiting for that special, unique embellishment that will pop into my head any moment. You will definitely enjoy this book, and it will inspire you to try every technique and project in its beautiful pages. Contact info:
